INVENTIONS

For Bach, Inventions were for two or three voices. They were counterpoint exercises. What it actually could be considered invented, and what craftsmanship, remains a mystery. For the composer Emilio Pizzi, Invention was – instead – an investment idea of his large profits in London: he financed in 1915 the engineer Manrico Compare. It did not have to be a good deal: in 1940, he died without a penny in the home for musicians Giuseppe Verdi of Milan.
